Well done good and faithful servant. Matthew 25:21
I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. 2 Timothy 4:7
Rev. Dr. Jerry D Lewis Chaplain, Colonel USAF (Retired), of Jacksonville, NC ran to the arms of Jesus November 26, 2024.
Pastor Jerry was a native of Morehead City, NC, son of the late Jerry Thomas Lewis and Edna Fay Garner Lewis. Raised in the Promise Land, Jerry had a special connection to the water and loved to fish. He would marry his greatest catch and love of his life Debby, his wife of 45 years. Together they would raise 3 children, their spouses whom he loved as his children and 7 grandchildren whom he adored. He was a beloved Son, Brother, Cousin, Friend, Pastor, Devoted Husband, Daddy and Bopa (Grandfather).
From a young age Jerry answered the Lord's calling to be a Fisher of Men. He loved the Lord with all his heart, soul and mind and his life's mission and greatest accomplishment was to share the love of Jesus with everyone.
Jerry began his ministry as a United Methodist Pastor at Siler City and Buckhorn-Moncure. The Lord cast a big net that had Jerry traveling the globe for 30 years as a USAF Chaplain attaining the rank of Colonel. As a retired veteran, Pastor Jerry continued preaching and served at Northwoods UMC where he joyfully shared the Word and loved people. Most recently he was appointed by the Global Methodist Church at Trinity Methodist Church where he served as Church Administrator. He served a founding role in the Global Methodist Church for North Carolina as the First Chairman of the Board, First President, GMC NC Organizer, Episcopacy Committee Chair for the North Carolina Inaugural Conference. During his battle with cancer, he started a new ministry, First Cup, where he would share his daily reflections and morning devotions.
Pastor Jerry was larger than life. A faith filled, spiritual leader among men. He boldly shared the Gospel, his testament of faith and prayed with everyone. His high energy, passionate, outgoing, full of life, exuberant joy and love of Jesus touched so many lives near and far.
He enjoyed spending time with his beloved wife, family and friends. Some of his favorite past times included taking his family out on the boat to Shackleford, fishing, golfing, hunting, watching sports and cheering on his grandbabies.
Although his absence will be forever felt here on earth, we rejoice in knowing Jerry is home in the arms of Jesus. He has received his crown and heard those words well done good and faithful servant. As believers we take great comfort in knowing we shall see him again. His legacy will live on in our hearts forever and we honor him by sharing the love of Jesus.
If you close your eyes, you can hear him whooping, hollering and shouting Thank you Jesus! Praise the Lord!
