My name is Melissa, and I am setting up this GoFundMe page for my husband who is currently in CVICU and will need critical care medical treatment for the unforeseen future. Early Thursday morning Patrick went to the hospital with chest pain and severe back pain only to be diagnosed with an Aortic dissection type A. Patrick was flown by helicopter to another hospital where he underwent emergency surgery to repair his heart. After receiving surgery Patrick was removed from the ventilator and a day later went into cardiac arrest while in the CVICU. Patrick was placed back on a ventilator, sedated, and has yet to have the ventilator removed or take any breaths while on the ventilator. He is also receiving dialysis to remove excess fluid from his body.
My husband has dedicated his life to helping others in their time of need. He is the kind of person who would give the shirt off his back to someone even if it meant he would go without. He loves to make others smile by telling jokes and funny stories. Patrick has been serving his community as a paramedic for over 30 years. He started his career in New York as an EMT and worked his way up to Paramedic and then Critical Care flight Paramedic. Patrick has also served his community as a 911 dispatcher. He has flown all over the United States and other countries taking care of the sick and injured.
It is very difficult for me to take time off work and spend time at the hospital with my husband as I am the only source of income for our family and must travel to visit him. I am asking for people to answer the call for help like my husband has done for so many others in need. I do not expect to pay off all the medical bills but getting through these next couple of months without worry and providing for my family would mean the world to my family and me. This would allow me to take time off to be with him and to take care of my him during his recovery. Patrick has a long road to recovery so, on behalf of my husband and our family, we appreciate the support & prayers from everyone.
