APRIL 2020 UPDATE ON PANDEMIC RELIEF EFFORTS
Orora Global team of women working at our production center have been tough warriors fighting tough challenges at home, work and in the community. Our work of empowering women is impossible without the excellent support of our trusted partners on the ground in India, SEVAI , who have now taken up the cause of feeding a whole community, supporting upto 1000 vulnerable families everyday, particularly those whose livelihood is dependent on daily wage.
Watch this video showcasing how the community we work with everyday is supporting each other through the lockdown. Small acts of kindness can go a long way in helping the community out of hunger.
APRIL 2020 UPDATE DUE TO CORONAVIRUS EMERGENCY: IMPORTANT AND URGENT
As the Coronavirus pandemic crosses 1 million cases across the world and several countries are enduring a lockdown, the marginal communities across the world are hardest hit. In India, lakhs of daily wage laborers have lost their jobs as the country enters the lockdown. Orora's team in India and our project partners on the ground in India are reporting that people living in neighbouring slums and villages are facing hunger arising from loss of wage and lack of resources to stock food supplies. In these difficult times, we have to rely on each other as a community to help the most vulnerable population.
Because of lockdown in India, Orora's solar technicians are not able to work at our center, who are usually paid by the number of days they work at Orora's production center. We want to make sure our technicians are getting paid and are not forced to resist social distancing to feed their family!
Come join us as Orora's Champion of Sustainability and be the reason a family can be ready to share a meal. If you are in a position to contribute, please make a donation today so that we can keep delivering hope and stable employment opportunity to vulnerable populations in India during this time of need. No dollar amount is too small. If you are unable to donate at this time, you can advocate for us by sharing Orora’s mission with a family member, a friend or a co-worker.
Thank you for being part of our community and helping us deliver support during this pandemic.
FEBRUARY 2020 UPDATE : PATH TO SUSTAINABILITY
As 2020 marks the beginning of a new decade, we at Orora are embarking on our journey to Paving our path to Sustainability. Orora Global, Inc. is a social enterprise that builds truly sustainable communities using innovative solution in renewable energy. Our solutions are co-designed with the communities we work in to provide more opportunities to women and youth by developing innovative cleantech solutions, thereby impacting the triple bottom-line sustainability.
We believe in the philosophy, “Give a man a fish, and you will feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, and you’ve fed him for a lifetime.” We engage with individuals in building stronger sustainable communities. Together, we fight for the independence, empowerment and financial stability of every individual we work with in various communities.
A LITTLE BACKGROUND ABOUT ORORA'S CENTER IN AMOOR, TRICHY (INDIA)
Over the last couple of years, Orora's team of 25 women employees working out of Amoor, Trichy (India), have been trained with unique skills in electronics and solar engineering. Our team can now produce solar solutions to help meet their own energy needs. Training and working with our employees has been a truly amazing experience. We hear the joy in the voices of our employees when they share their stories with us about how their life has progressed in the last two years working at Orora. We are so grateful for our growth so far and our well-wishers (our champions of sustainability) who we have come in contact with and also those who share our vision of helping the planet, women and local communities.
You can read more about Orora's work in Amoor, Trichy (India) on our website (Orora Blogs ).
PAVING OUR PATH TO SUSTAINABILITY
Starting 2020, our main goal for Orora’s center in Amoor, Trichy (India) is to make it self-sustaining. Orora’s team is currently setting up its first pilot of a community-owned and community-managed completely solar-powered and automated Orora Power Hub for garment manufacturing. When the hub is fully operational, the revenue generated from the sale of the garments manufactured by this hub and the savings generated by use of renewable energy at the hub (instead of fossil fuel) will go into a profit-sharing fund which will help with sustaining the Amoor center for the next several years to come. The center will help sustain the livelihood of 65 employees (25 women working at the Orora’s renewable energy production center and 40 individuals working at garment manufacturing center).
We truly believe in our team. We truly believe in this community. We are currently raising $25,000 via our crowdfunding campaign to setup a self-sustaining solution for our team of women to earn a livelihood and become financially independent in the years to come. Setting up an Orora Power Hub for garment manufacturing in Amoor, Trichy (India) will provide the women a platform to achieve self-sustainability locally. The funds raised through this campaign will go to support the salaries of women working at our center in Amoor, Trichy (India) for a year.
With the generous support from AIC-Sangam, our first funders for this pilot, we have kickstarted setting up the infrastructure for Orora Power Hub.
We graciously request your support to complete our pilot model of the Orora Power Hub and financial independence for our team of strong women. Together through these efforts, we can continue the legacy of building strong minds that will ultimately be strong leaders within the Trichy community (locally), within India (nationally), and globally.
