My name is Lee Besing and my wife, Pat Knight, passed away unexpectedly on September 2nd. She left behind her son John, myself, and her stepson David. She did not have any burial insurance to cover the expenses that we're now incurring. She died without a Will, which means we need to go through Probate Court and hire a lawyer.
She wanted to be cremated, which the Neptune Society is handling, for a fee of course. We need to raise about $2,000 for the Neptune Society, plus we need additional funds to cover legal expenses for dealing with the Probate Court. (Update 9/26 - Attorney is costing $325 oer billable hour. Yikes!)
We rented a facility to hold a Celebration of Life in October because there's been a high demand for it. That event will cost another $1,000, or so, for rent, deposit and food.
We're estimating that we could need up to $10,000, or more, to cover these expenses. Any funds raised will be used to pay off these expenses or any other debts that she may have left behind.
Pat was my wife for 22.5 years and a mother to her 28-year-old son, John. She was very active in the community, especially in the Amateur Radio (Ham) field. She had been conducting volunteer examiner tests for new ham radio operators, as well as those wanting to upgrade their license, since she got her own Ham Radio License (AD5BR) back in late 2000.
She was an active member & officer of the Hill Country REACT Team, San Antonio Radio Club (SARC), and other organizations. She had been a member of the Alamo Area Radio Organization (AARO), San Antonio Repeater Organization (SARO), Radio Operators of South Texas (ROOST), and Kendall Amateur Radio Society(KARS). She frequently volunteered for the American Diabetes Association and the National MS Society bicycle rides. She was active with our homeowner association, the Great Northwest, serving on the architectural control committee. She frequently put on free workshops for the residents to help them with their Apple products. She operated a small, one-person computer consultant company called MacAnswers.
She was only 66 when she died. If you feel like helping, we appreciate it.
