Patricia needs a new heart
Donation protected
Patricia Edwards has been fighting for her life for the past nine years. For nine years, she’s also been raising four children on her own. All of which have grown into phenomenal young people. When Patricia first got her diagnosis of heart failure, it was after months of shortness of breath, exhaustion, fatigue and repeatedly being misdiagnosed. By the time she reached the correct diagnosis, she was in severe heart failure. We saw a transplant team at Stanford and were told she had months to live. I remember the helpless feeling she and I both felt leaving that room. Through her tears, she told me she was going to live. Her youngest two kids were only 6 and 8, and all her kids were under 18. She was right! She beat the odds time and time again. After undergoing several treatments, her heart function would improve for short periods before being back in the hospital due to her heart's inability to pump adequately. In 2019 she finally got a mechanical device called a Left Ventricular Assist Device into her heart. We thought for once she would have some relief. In the beginning, she did, but about six months ago, her pump was recalled, and they are no longer making parts for it. The pump has been having problems and is now causing her to be severely anemic. She cannot survive anymore outside of the hospital and will not survive long without a new heart. She will remain admitted to the hospital until she receives a heart transplant. This morning she was transferred to Cedars-Sinai Hospital in Southern California. They are one of the top heart transplant hospitals in the nation, and we are so lucky that she will be able to have a heart transplant there. They specialize in specific treatments that will improve the outcome for Patricia. As exciting as it is for her to finally be able to receive a new heart and hopefully a better life, it doesn’t come without a lot of expenses. Currently, the Edwards family lives in Woodland, but soon she will be financially responsible for her home in Woodland and temporary housing near the hospital in Southern California. She could be living in Southern California after her transplant for three months to a year. The cost of the hospital stay, the temporary housing, and the regular expenses of raising a family will create a financial hardship. I want to give her some support to relieve some of the burdens. Patricia should be able to focus on healing and getting her life back in order instead of being stressed about finances. For those that can donate, please consider. I will provide regular updates on where she is in her new heart journey.
