Patrick & Gloria Warczak Memorial Fund

Patrick Warczak Sr. struggled to take care of his loving wife of 61 years, Gloria, after she encountered one health issue after another. In the last few years, she disappeared into a fog of severe dementia, and Pat made the difficult decision to admit Gloria into a nursing facility where Gloria was eventually placed under hospice care. Because the couple had very little money, Gloria became a ward of the state of Wisconsin and was cared for under Medicaid-related services, and Pat Sr. became her legal guardian. But in late May 2021, Pat Sr. was suddenly and unexpectedly diagnosed with terminal leukemia. He passed away on Father's Day with little in the way of valuable assets. Gloria's children worked to see that she was cared for, with youngest son Patrick Jr. taking over as Gloria's guardian. But then on August 10th, Gloria suddenly died. The children were left with mounting legal bills and funeral expenses.

Patrick Sr. and Gloria worked hard their entire lives, rising from difficult childhoods to raise their family in Cedarburg, Wisconsin. They always kept gardens to help feed the family, and believed in the common-sense frugality of doing things yourself and the value and benefits of hard work. But after opening a business together in the 1980s, the pressure of back-to-back recessions took its toll and the business was lost. The couple never entirely recovered financially. So it was that as Gloria faced numerous health issues that they turned to social security, medicare and other government assistance to survive. Pat Sr. even took on a newspaper delivery job into his 80s to help make ends meet. This left very little to cover the expenses and funeral-related costs facing their kids.
