Patrick Grady’s Devastation from Lahaina Fires
Donation protected
Captain Patrick Grady has been a Lahaina resident for the past 57 years, since childhood. He has been the Master Captain of the Pride of Maui charter boat out of Maalaea Harbor for more than 25 years. Captain Pat would never consider living anywhere but Lahaina. He is an avid waterman who has surfed and paddled off the shores of Lahaina his entire life. He loves Lahaina Town and the many wonderful friends he has grown up with. Captain Pat has lived in his condo one block off Front Street for 30 years and is heartbroken to have lost his hale to the fire. I work aboard Pride of Maui, and he is my boat Captain and like a father to me. He is known by his community for the good-hearted human he is, and volunteering for countless beach clean ups, removal of invasive plants on the West Maui Mountains, and a long list of other good deeds, for the Lahaina district. Captain Pat graduated from Lahainaluna High, and faithfully attends the annual graduation ceremonies. His heart is true, and he is a wonderful example of a West Maui resident who has supported Lahaina town his entire life. All of Pat’s possessions were lost in the Lahaina fire. He barely escaped by running through flames and survived with the shirt on his back, his signature truckers cap, shorts, and a pair of sneakers. Everything else is gone; Cash, IDs, home, clothes, EVERYTHING. GONE. He has been couch surfing at my place and other friends. Every penny donated is going directly to Pat to help him and a few of his dearest friends get back on their feet. He would never ask for anything and doesn’t even know I am setting this up for him. Anything is a blessing because he has nothing. Mahalo from the bottom of my heart.
