Patrick Kavanaugh passed away from a sudden heart attack on Monday, April 2. His death was, and continues to be, a huge shock to his family and friends. He was in the prime of his life; he and Barbara had just met their 8th grandchild and were in the process of moving to Texas to be closer to family. His funeral was held in Wichita Falls, Texas on April 6.
Patrick was one of a kind. As a tremendous musician (composer, conductor, and classical guitarist), minister, author, and the Director of the MasterWorks Festival, Patrick touched countless lives and inspired performing artists all over the world. He was a kind, caring, passionate, huge-hearted man who dearly loved his wife, children, grandchildren, and many, many friends.
He saw the classical arts world as a mission field, and dedicated his life to spreading the love and message of Jesus Christ through the performing arts. Throughout his career, Patrick ministered in twenty-six countries. In 1984 he co-founded the Christian Performing Artists' Fellowship, and in 1997 the first MasterWorks Festival began. Together with his wife, they poured every ounce of time, energy, resources, and passion they had into fulfilling its mission. Twenty-one years and thirty festivals later, MasterWorks has influenced thousands of Christian musicians, dancers, actors, and audiences from around the globe to spread the Good News through great art, to use their gifts to the glory of God, and to change the world.
Patrick's life stands as a testimony to his conviction that knowing, serving, and sharing the eternal love of Our Lord Jesus Christ is most blessed life one can live. Patrick’s legacy will spread through generations.
To give you a background into the financial situation Barbara is facing right now: Patrick had a life insurance policy which would have covered Barbara’s financial needs. However, the premium on the policy went up tenfold in February, so they cancelled the policy and were searching for an alternative. Unfortunately, they had not found anything before tragedy struck. So after paying for life insurance diligently for 20 years, Barbara gets nothing. Paying for the funeral expenses and beyond will be a challenge for her and the family.
Money raised through this fund will go to help cover the cost of the funeral. If we surpass our goal, any additional funds will go to helping Barbara as she moves to Texas to be near her son and grandchildren, and continues her & Patrick's life's work of spreading the love of Christ through music.
Thank you and God bless you,
The Kavanaugh Family
