Saints live among us and Patrick Lydon is certainly one of them. Our very own St. Patrick has devoted his career, his life and his family to helping young people with disabilities find meaning and joy in communal living, farming and art in Ballytobin and Callan, Ireland. Blessed with idealism, keen intelligence, an inquisitive, searching mind, and a warm sense of humor, Patrick, along with his gifted partner, Gladys, have dwelt on a higher moral plane focused on helping others flourish, as you can see here: https://vimeo.com/105012074 

Patrick was recently diagnosed with Sporadic ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis), a progressive neurological disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord, causing loss of muscle control.  As the disease advances the damaged nerve cells that control voluntary muscle movements cause these muscles to get weaker which affects the ability to move, walk, breathe, eat and speak.

ALS has no cure, with a life expectancy from 2 to 5 years. Patrick is already using a motorized wheelchair, and physical and respiratory therapy, palliative care and nursing care lie ahead. These unforeseen expenses will be costly, and Patrick and Gladys have committed their lives to the community rather than prioritizing their own financial security.
