Patrick's surgery

My brother Patrick is in need of some help. A couple of weeks ago he found out he has a ruptured Achilles tendon. Specifically "there is superficial and deep edema along the proximal Achilles tendon which overall has an irregular surface. Additionally there is intrasubstance increased signal and thickened morphology consistent with intrasubstance tear." Oh my. What all that means is he needs surgery. Sooner rather than later. Surgery would be about 1/2 day outpatient with 6 weeks of a cast, followed by 4 weeks in a boot, followed by physical therapy.
He is a data scientist by trade teaching people how to look at their numbers and business and make sense of things. He does this training all over the world and as you might imagine, he spends a good deal of time on the road. Last year alone was 25 weeks. At this very moment he is in Tulsa for a week then straight to Austin, all while in pain and wearing a boot to immobilize his leg. His doctor wanted him to have surgery immediately otherwise it would do further damage and possibly become unrepairable. As he is the sole breadwinner for his family, taking time off would be a major hardship. As his job requires a lot of travel, not being able to travel for those six weeks of a cast will be a problem. While he has some vacation time, he wouldn't have enough and could potentially suffer income loss. His company is trying to work with him but they have to make money too.
Which leads to the bigger problem; even with insurance, this is not cheap. He has already been billed $1000 for the MRI and is looking at least $5000 out of pocket for the surgery. Add to that any medical supplies, physical therapy costs, and doctor co-payment for follow up visits, and he has a good chunk coming out of pocket.
We are trying to raise enough to cover the surgery costs and some of the medical expense. If additional funds come in, then great, he can take the time off work without any fear or income loss. This would let him fully recover and make sure he doesn't do any damage to the leg.
My brother is good man who has suffered through a lot of setbacks over the years. He has dealt with death of loved ones, loss of property, and even a lawsuit from another family member. Every time life tried to take him down, he has come back, and he has done it on his own. Not once has he ever asked for a handout or for financial help that I know of. During a recent hardship people told him he should file for bankruptcy but he refused and made many sacrifices to his own health and stress levels to make sure bills were paid and his family had a roof over their heads and food in their bellies.
I love my brother very much and wish I could help him more financially than I can. He really needs a break. Anything you can do to help ease the burden of this surgery and let my brother walk normal again would be wonderful. Thank you very much for your time.
