Pats Rescue retreat Alora Malaga Spain
Donation protected
Hi everyone I am fundraising for Pats rescue retreat in Alora, Malaga Spain.
Pat is a well known dog rescue charity who never said no to helping a dog in need including 3 I asked her to take.
Around April/May Pat was rushed into hospital with acute Peritonitis and underwent abdominal surgery. The outcome is that Pat now has cancer in her liver.
We are raising money to continue to maintain the 67 dogs she has in her care.
Anyone who knows Pat knows she going over and beyond to help dogs and recently removed over 10 dogs from a home after a tragic incident killed their owners.
The next statement was kindly written by Pat.
First a bit of background on me. I was born in N. Ireland, trained as a nurse and worked on and off in hospitals until I retired in 2004 when my husband and I came to Spain. We spent 6 years renovating the Finca where I now live on my own (my husband died in 2012). I have always been an animal lover but with a family and full time work in the NHS (often 12 hour shifts) it was never the right time to have any dogs . When my husband died my two daughters encouraged me to join FB and it was really only then that I realised the amount of cruelty and animals needing rescuing in Spain. For a couple of years I mostly fostered for other rescues Arca Noah, Last Chance. Etc but then got involved in rescuing myself and it has really just snowballed from there . Christmas 2023 - i had over 100 puppies/ dogs here and worked mostly on my own . I try to find as many as i can loving homes but since Brexit snd Covid adoptions have slowed right down. Unfortunately i didn't realize at the time - Jan / Feb 2024 I had started to feel vaguely unwell but just put it down to too much work ,my age, etc but I ended up in hospital in April with acute peritonitis and during the surgery and investigations they found cancer cells in lymph nodes and part of my bowel . Two operations later and I now have a lesion in my liver ! Further investigations required! In spite of all of this - i consider myself very lucky - i have had a good life - done lots of interesting things, always had jobs that i loved, and have some amazing friends . So would i go back and change anything ? No probably not x I am not scared of dying ( nearer 80 than75 so had a good innings) But I am scared about what happens to my beloved dogs There are still 67 here at the rescue ( that is including my own dogs) and i could die happy if i knew they were safe so i need to either get a huge number of lovely people adopting my dogs or i need to make sure there is money left in trust to ensure that they will be looked after. I have some amazing friends who will do that but they need the funds to make it possible . If you can help in any way - thank you from the bottom of my heart xxxx
