Paul Hewes Recovery

Donation protected
On December 20th an unfortunate firearm accident occurred, which tragically altered the course of the life of one, whom we love and cherish. Paul arrived in this community as a young child and has worked hard throughout to find his place within. He has been a shining star, with his charming personality, his unwavering sense of humor, his incredible drive to please, and his desire to ensure safe passage for all. His faithful dedication to the island community has been evident in the exceptional service he has been providing on the mailboat through the years.

We greatly appreciate the care Paul has received from the various hospitals and staff thus far and are forever grateful for their diligence, professionalism, and expertise. We certainly wouldn’t be where we are right now if we didn’t have the exceptional team of professionals behind us. In the upcoming weeks and months Paul will be looking at multiple surgeries both here locally and in Boston to repair the damage from his recent accident. Once through the surgeries, he will continue down the road of rehabilitation in the form of therapies- physical and mental. As we all know, mental health is a huge part of the recovery process. Recovery is not only skin deep, and therefore it is so important to take the time to navigate the waters and ensure that he has a proper plan in place after such a traumatic accident. This is a massive undertaking, but we truly believe that Paul can pull through this event .
It is from this point of view that we reach out to you.
Paul’s recent experiences have left him struggling for his life and with untold financial expenses for the present emergency medical care, as well as his assistance moving forward. Thus far he has survived multiple surgeries with positive results and is receiving excellent care in Bangor. There will be a lot of time spent in (a fulltime living) an aftercare facility in Bangor, trips to Boston for surgery, and therapy throughout to ensure that he has the tools and the structure that he requires to reintegrate with society. His current expenses to date are astronomical and in the coming months they will only become more daunting. We as a family are pulling together to provide what support and resources we can. Any assistance you can provide, regardless of the amount will be greatly appreciated and will fully benefit Paul in his time of need moving forward.
This go fund me has been put together for anyone who has an interest in providing financial support that will positively affect Paul’s outcome. It is our desire that moving forward Paul maintains his independence as well as his ability to continue to contribute to the community, in the capacity that has given him so much physical and emotional fulfillment. His heart and soul are in the ferry service and providing for the islands. We hope that your support and generosity will ease the heavy burden and stress of having insurmountable medical expenses, loss of income for an indefinite (at this point) amount of time and will ultimately help Paul go back to what he loves best - being on the water and providing for his community.
We greatly appreciate all your love and support.
