Paul Long

Dear friends of ours and friends of Paul Long, We wanted to give you an update since the original "Go Fund Me" request was sent 3 years ago by John McNeil.

The Old Goat is still kicking, and Paul is forever grateful for all that has been done in the past by so many of us. The praise belongs to God, his many docs and technicians, the medical community at large, the pharmaceutical industry, and his family & friends that have kept him alive thus far. In the last two months he has undergone some painful surgery on his neck and shoulder. After the removal of a large lympth node the pathology report came back scary being Metastatic Melanoma and it had spread in the area. It is the BRAF V600 mutation. Paul begin treatment this week using a very expensive medicine that some people have donated a debit card paying his expensive co-pay. Please continue your prayers as Paul says he can feel them! How he's still here is a mystery to Paul, but he still need funds for gas money to go back and forth to his many doc visits, to keep the lights & A/C on, and the list goes on and on. He's barely getting by on his state employee retirement and insurance, and don't get him started on his co-pays when he walks out his door! His prescriptions are numerous (30+ pills a day), and the costs are in 5 & 6 digits on an annual basis for several of them. MRIs, Pet Scans, X-rays, and surgeries continue along with Chemo and PT to hopefully find out if anything more can be done. He's unable to clean house, wash his clothes and put away...having to hire someone to do daily chores on his behalf. 2023 has been another tough year for Paul, but we want to be positive in our love and support of our friend. That's why we are asking you to consider contributing again to this "Go Fund Me for Paul Long."

Personally, it gives me the heebie jeevies just to read of his many ailments and diagnosis plan for his wellness moving forward (and I won't list), but we plan to give as we are able and ask you to do likewise. Paul hates having to ask me to write a letter, and he hates asking you for money, but we are begging on his behalf to ask you to participate another time.

Paul and I have talked about our connections together going back 50+ years ago during our NCSU days, our Jim Hunt days, and our construction days with L.P. Cox. Company before we ever met in person. Going on 30 years now when I began my political time in Lee, Harnett, and Sampson Counties for NC House, it was people like Paul Long who pointed us to the people, places, and events we should attend to build up our knowledge of politics and support in this area of North Carolina. We will NEVER forget what he and you did on our behalf, and that's why we will continue to love and support our friend Paul Long.
