Paul & Carrie Nagel Family Medical Expenses

Donation protected
Hello family and friends! I'm Paul's sister-in-law and have had SO many awesome people asking me what they can do to help Paul & Carrie during Paul's cancer fight so we decided a Go Fund Me would be a great option.

As many people know, Paul battled a very rare and aggressive form of cancer as a child from approximately the age of 3-7 years old. Being the little badass he is, he beat that! With the aggressive chemo and other treatments he had to endure, it wreaked havoc on him many years later. He developed type II diabetes several years ago as well as had to have a kidney transplant (thanks for sharing a kidney Mary!). Once again, he handled that like a champ. In April of 2019, it was discovered that he had a tumor on his liver. The medical professionals feel that this cancer was likely due to treatments from the childhood cancer as well. Paul and Carrie headed to Mayo for a plan of attack and they recommend surgery. Surgery for the liver resection occurred on 6/24/19. To say the least, surgery did not go without a hitch, but the good news was that it appeared the cancer was gone. For several months following his surgery, they went back to Mayo for various complications and routine follow-ups. We got amazing news when they were told the liver had regenerated and again, the cancer appeared to have been eliminated.

Unfortunately, that good news did not last long when a new spot was found on the liver in November. A few weeks later he did some additional testing and a different cancer was found spread throughout the liver. Currently, Paul has been in and out of the hospital (more in then out) since that time. The current plan of attack is to get his weight up (feeding tube) and let his body heal up before anything can be done about this dumbass cancer. (PS...I hate cancer.) He had been back home since 1/31/20 up through 2/9/20 when he had a lot of pain and swelling in one of his legs and had to go to the ER. It was determined he has several blood clots so he is now treating for that as well.  We just got word as I type this that he is heading back home. Yippee!!!

Carrie teaches 2nd grade at Lincoln Elementary and she is plugging along with all this craziness like the awesome chick and dedicated wife she is! Mariah is kicking ass as a Demonette and keeping up amazing grades even through the stress and chaos of this situation. Molly  (11 year old pug...aka the love of Paul's life....sorry Carrie, but you know it's true! ) and Bailey  (3 year old Brittany...obsessed with Paul and jealous she isn't the love of his life) are keeping Paul company and love when he gets to be home.

Carol has been back in Bismarck for several months and has been staying with Paul most days and nights. You can't stop this mama bear! And the other 4 (Eric, Lee, Alisa, and Renae) that make up the Fab 5 are doing everything they can to support our Paulie. These 5 all live within about a 5 mile radius of each in south Bismarck and not only are they siblings, they are best of friends. Steve is in Bismarck to help out, as well as many aunts and uncles that Paul has grown up with.

Anywho, if you'd like to help out this AWESOME family that we all love SO much, it would be greatly appreciated. Easing some financial strain would be an amazing gift to them! Paul is optimistic and he is hitting back with two fists for every punch thrown at him!
