Paul Turner on his road to recovery.

Hi, my name is Elizabeth Beaton and I am organizing this GoFundMe for retired firefighter Paul Turner & his family. My husband was Paul's partner on Engine 5 for years before Paul's promotion to Fire Inspector. In September 2022, only 10 months after retiring from a decorated career with the Hamden Fire Department, Paul Turner suffered a massive stroke. It has been a long road to recovery but Paul is a fighter. After months of being at Yale New-Haven Hospital, Gaylord Hospital and Gaylord Specialty Healthcare's Traurig House Brain Injury & Stroke Residential Program, Paul returned home on Friday, March 3rd. Now that he is home, the logistic and financial challenges of his continued care are mounting. Paul uses a wheelchair and cannot be left home alone. House for Heroes rallied with the assistance of an army of Hamden firefighters to install a handicap ramp and retrofit bathrooms for Paul's home. As Mary still needs to work outside the home, she is faced with hiring caregivers for the foreseeable future. Additionally, insurance is limiting the number of therapy sessions per calendar year. Paul continues to improve and the additional therapy sessions are key as recommended by his doctors and therapists.

With Mary's permission, I have set up this GoFundMe to help with his ongoing medical expenses. Paul dedicated his life to service serving 21 years in the U.S. Air Force and U.S. Air Force Reserve, as well as, his 26 years as a Hamden Firefighter. He and his family have given so much to the country and his community, it is my hope that we can bring some financial relief to this amazing family and support Paul on his road to recovery. All funds will go to his direct care and rehabilitation.
