Paula Scholtes' Aloha Retirement

Hello fellow coworkers, friends, families, and folks who have been enriched by knowing Paula (and would love to SURPRISE her),

Paula Scholtes is retiring after more than 35 years of service in the Meriam Library at CSU, Chico. In her current role as a cataloger, hundreds of books cross Paula’s desk each week!

As you all know, Paula is passionate about helping. On campus she has volunteered above and beyond the call of duty with Wildcat Welcome, the Ask Me table, mentoring incoming students, commencement ceremonies, Staff Council, Joy of Giving Program, Paula Picks, the annual Staff & Faculty Art Exhibit, donating to the Path to Power - PAC (Political Activities Committee), dancing her heart away in the staff awards luncheon videos, smiling for the Big ‘C’ Photos, and on and on.

Off-campus, Paula is equally generous. She’s paid for coworkers’ meals; given students rides to doctor appointments; transported food and medications to former colleagues; delivered flowers and remembered birthday presents for friends and their kids; and given college students driving lessons. She even became an ordained minister to help friends get married. I’m sure many of you could list a million little ways she’s helped make your life better. Second to Mother Teresa, Paula may be the most giving and selfless person that’s ever existed.

After dedicating her career to our campus, this community, and the goodness of this world, we would like to ease her into retirement with a vacation for two to Hawaii--where she has been dreaming of going since she was a child. I feel certain that we are all forever grateful to Paula for sharing her kindness, impressive memory, whimsy, and joy. There is no better time to share our gratitude and show her how much we appreciate her than now!

We hope to reach as many people as possible who have been blessed by Paula's joy. Can you imagine the impact we could have if all who she greeted daily were able to donate to her retirement gift?
