Paul’s Medical Journey

Class of 2002, Caprock High graduate, Paul Soliz is in need of financial help. Since 2017 Paul has been in and out of the hospital with bacterial pneumonia in both lungs. By February of 2018, Paul was in the hospital back to back fighting for his life on his daughters first birthday. Going to Arizona in 2018 to the Mayo Clinic, Paul was diagnosed with hydrocephalus, liquid in the brain. August 2018, Paul had brain surgery and a consultation from the Mayo Clinic saying he was in respiratory failure. They said based on their observations, he had approximately five years to live, and they had referred him to Saint Joseph in Phoenix, Arizona. Based on a phone consultation alone, they told Paul he would have maybe three years to live. January of 2019, Paul had a three week session to observe how far along his respiratory failure was. After the observation they told Paul he was lucky if he lived one year. During this time Paul was hospitalized two more times in his hometown and was told he needed a transplant sooner than they thought. On May 8 of 2019 during a clinical visit in Arizona, Paul said all he wanted for his birthday (May 10th) was to be on the transplant list. Come Monday morning (the 13th) Paul’s oxygen levels were so low he ended up back in the hospital and had to be immediately flown out to Phoenix Arizona the next morning, he was APPROVED for a double lung transplant that day. By the time he got there his condition had worsened so much that they had to put him on an intubator for 30 days. His father who was already retired accompanied him along with his mother and sister. His wife and children arrived in Phoenix a week before the transplant, she said she had a feeling that Paul needed his children there. On June 9, the day they were supposed to leave, the family got a call that lungs have been found and that Paul was going to be rushed into surgery. At 6 AM June 10th Paul was in surgery. At this time, his sister sold her home, and moved into her moms home to help with the cost of living in Phoenix Arizona. His sister also got a second job to help with the medical cost of insurance so that Paul can keep fighting for his life. His mom then had to retire from work so she and Paul’s dad could both be the caretakers for him. In September 2020 once again, Paul had to fly out to Saint Joseph‘s for lung rejection. Since then he has been traveling back-and-forth with his dad and mom for treatments. He’s a true fighter and wishes to be around longer to spend time with his family and two children that are now 8 1/2 years old and soon to be four years old. Please keep Paul and his family in your prayers as we have set up a go fund me to help with his expenses. Thank you and God bless.
