Pave Kaiya's Road to Recovery
Donation protected
Marina’s 10-year-old daughter, Kaiya, was accidentally hit in the back by a stray bullet during a drive-by shooting on Friday, February 3rd. Marina, her mom, and Marina’s four children were walking down the street to pick up dinner when the accident happened and they witnessed the shooting first-hand.
Kaiya was separated from her three younger sisters and taken to the hospital where she was treated for her injuries.
Kaiya's doctors have cleared her to work on strengthening exercises, which is great news for now.
Kaiya will have a long road to recovery. She will have extensive medical bills following the incident. She will have to do physical and occupational therapy in the coming months and years.
All of Kaiya’s siblings witnessed the gunfire and their sister's injuries on the scene and it's been particularly hard for them to be separated from her while she has been in the hospital and as they begin to process what happened.
We are asking for your support to make sure that Kaiya and her family members have access to quality mental health care from providers who are trained to help with trauma and to cover any parts of her physical, occupational, and mental health therapy that her insurance may refute. Any excess funds raised will be used to provide respite care for Kaiya's mom, Marina, who will be her primary recovery helper while raising her three younger siblings.
Please join us in paving Kaiya's road to recovery.
For those who may be curious, I am a friend of the family. The funds will go 100% to supporting the family at this time-- My goal is to help take the organizing fatigue off of them as they heal and begin processing the events of last weekend.
