I'm Callum Bates, and after living in the Dominican Republic for over two years, I’ve witnessed firsthand the stark disparity between the luxury of tourist destinations and the challenges faced by local communities. Many children grow up in underfunded schools with outdated materials, overcrowded classrooms, and limited access to basic educational tools. Without intervention, these children risk being left behind, unable to build the future they deserve.

Why we walk

The Walk for Education is more than a journey—it’s a mission. Through a series of long-distance walks across the Dominican Republic, we aim to raise funds and awareness for critical educational needs. Each walk highlights the importance of education, while raising money for local organizations working to improve learning environments and provide much-needed resources.

Our past walks have successfully raised over $7,000, enabling us to help fund vital educational initiatives. But there’s so much more to be done. In 2025, we’re launching an ambitious trilogy of walks:

Santo Domingo to Puerto Plata
Puerto Plata to Samaná
Samaná to Santo Domingo

Each walk is dedicated to a different education-related cause, ensuring the funds we raise directly benefit children and communities in need.

The cause
