Home and Business Lost in Pawtucket Mill Fire
Donation protected
My name is Mark Dufualt and I Lost Everything in the Pawtucket/Central Falls Mill Fire! The large two story loft space on 400 Pine St. in Pawtucket R.I. was my home for six years. It was filled with countless memories of friends and family who had passed. My soon to open machine shop was also located within the mill.
That Saturday morning the sound of fire engines and the smell of smoke woke me. When I opened my door there was nothing to see but fire. The four story building in the back of the property was completely engulfed. I had enough time to turn the gas off to my building (in hopes of preserving the building if the fire spread) and move two cars parked outside my door. By then the fire fighters told me to leave or they would "escort" me out. At that point I sat across the street and watched as the fire spread to four other buildings including mine. This was my home and my machine shop that I had pieced together over the better part of twelve years. More than just tools, my shop was an extension of who I am, it was my path in life. A year ago, I started down the road to open my shop to the public. Tax ID, Account, SBA Loan etc. Grand opening would have been by July. So would the purchase of insurance.
Here's to hoping I get the chance to try again! The fire resulted in a total loss. I can not find the words to describe the total stop your life becomes. Losing a home or a business is horrible but both at the same time is heart breaking. If I can't figure out a way to get my shop back in a relatively short time my path in life is lost. I did submit a list to the property owners insurance for items lost on the slim chance I was covered, but I am not. That list totaled over $96,000. Together with startup and living expenses etc. I would need roughly 130K. Any help is greatly appreciated. Donated tools or equipment could be worked out and I am also looking for any appropriate loan or loans that would work for both parties. Of course cash donations are great but the single largest help one can give is to get my story out to as many donors as possible if I'm going to reach the amount needed. Please know, all donations will go to getting my shop back up and running. Thank you for your time and consideration,
