My name is Timothy Read I served honorably with 2nd Battalion 6th Marine Regiment from 2007 to 2013. I met Shadow at 32nd Street Naval Base San Diego when a boy scoutmaster Kimmie brought me to base to cheer up my spirits. My spirits need to be lifted because in 2010 I stepped on a IED in Afghanistan. That led me down a broken road then to volunteer at the boy scout troop 11 in San Diego. I met shadow and for her it was love at first sight she ran straight to me in the lineup of scoutmasters, handlers, my wife, and a chaplain. We adopted her and a few months later Kimmie picked her up and flew her to our home in Florida.
Shadow served with 3rd Battalion 7th Marines in Sangin Afghanistan in the year 2010. She saved countless lives and Sangin was known for a hotspot of IED's. Not only that, but IED dogs usually walked in the front of the patrol, and were a high value target to the taliban. Chances of survival of a IED dog in Sangin were slim to none.
After I adopted her I made her my service dog. I essentially made her my service dog so I could take her anywhere with the status she earned.
She will be 13 on January 5th 2022 and has started to have alot of health problems. She had difficulty breathing through her nose and what I think is neuropathy in her hips. Seeing her like this breaks my hardened heart because there is little I can do for her in this state. The diagnostic procedure cost $3500 and my wife and I know she will be in good health when we figure out what is wrong with her breathing. I know this because she was bred by the United States Goverment for combat.
I am asking anyone to help my Shadow breath easier and ease suffering.
Every little bit helps.
