Help Kudzai get a Intrathecal Baclofen pump .

My name is Hope Marozwa, and my 17-year-old brother, Kudzai suffers from Dyskinetic cerebral Palsy. I am looking to raise R100 000 / $ 5,447 to help pay for an Intrathecal Baclofen pump.

On the 20th of October 2022, a lumber catheter to test an intrathecal infusion of Baclofen was placed on Kudzai at Red Cross Hospital in Cape Town. This test produced very impressive results for both his comfort and function. The Doctors believe that inserting an intrathecal Baclofen pump will reduce severe spasticity and dystonia. If dystonia is controlled, his current challenges of respiratory difficulties and feeding exclusively via a gastronomy tube(PEG) will be a thing of the past.

I am writing to ask you to support me in raising funds required for the Baclofen pump. My whole family cannot wait for the day when Kudzai will taste food again in his mouth, control his wheelchair with ease and use his hands to at least hold things. Everyone deserves some form of independence; that is all we wish for him.

Kudzai is a wheelchair dancer, an adaptive assisted runner (having just completed his first full marathon) and an adaptive cyclist (having done 2 Cape Town Cycle Tours as a buggy rider). He has also been a member of The Chaeli Campaign Ambassadors Leadership Programme for the past few years. Over the years, he has transitioned from being dependent on others pushing his wheelchair to move independently in a power chair. He is confident and outgoing and participates in programs at his school and community. Due to various health challenges, Kudzai has, for the past years, had to forego eating conventionally due to aspirating his food, resulting in lung infections. He has had to grow accustomed to being tube-fed liquids only. His perseverance in the face of multiple challenges is incredible.
