Help Karl pay rent until he lands his next gig

Hi Friends,

I'm Karl Weber. I've been making apps and websites for 13 years. For the last 6 months I've been working at a really big financial company doing iOS stuff, which was nice. Everyone was nice, My team was fantastic. But I've been laid off. Jettisoned into space like so much refuse. I took a pay cut to work that job. Consistent and stable sounded like a good proposition. Oh well.

I've been working in Tech for 13 years, so I have a lot of experience, But the Covid Collapse of 2020 hit my family hard. It's taken years to slowly recover, find my footing, and start getting ahead on bills and debts. That job was our ticket to a slow stable recovery. Not any more. Funny fact, The week I was laid off I put in 14 hours on Wednesday to meet a deadline, and was fired, DURING STANDUP, on Friday. (A concurrent call came in).

The reasons stated were being late to meetings and refusing to give updates on work?!?!?!?! When the folks on the team found out they were right mad. "You're the best communicator on our team" one of them said. Which made me really happy. That same day many of those folks bought me lunch. One Gave me a synthesizer, another all the cash in his wallet, another a brand new Apple Pencil he had just ordered. Folks drove up from all over the Salt Lake Valley and Provo just to see me. Later that day I ate a whole pizza by myself out of depression.

I'm asking for financial help. We're behind on our rent and utilities, we have no savings. We're 6, My partner and I, and our 4 kids. My son needs new glasses. We lost our second car, it was repossessed. We know that my wife needs surgery. There is a tear, or... something, in her stomach that causes Constant Chronic pain. Sometimes it goes away, and that's cool, only to return and render her immobile. Doctor's don't know what's wrong, so maybe we talked to the wrong doctors? Insurance would be great for that, but hot damn, I've been a contractor for years, trying to get into a full time gig, THEN I FINALLY GET ONE, and it's this.

Beyond our own family, We've been helping a family member financially through a rough divorce. She's now a single mother of 3 trying to support herself with little support from her Ex. It's just not right. I feel so guilty that We were providing that support to her weekly, and now we can't even support ourselves.

So we need help. I would do unemployment, but that contractor life has bitten us hard.

The good news is that I don't believe our situation will be dire forever. I'm incredibly confident in my ability to deliver. I'm good at my job and I'm very good with people. We need money, yes, desperately, immediately. But after that I could probably have another job, or even better a contract to design, develop, and ship apps or websites.

Writing all this is an exercise in honesty and transparency. I don't feel ashamed or worried. Our situation is despite these efforts. I know that. I have a very clear and strong plan for finding, developing, and delivering work. So that's not an issue. But DAMN! It's so sudden. That's the part we need help with. To bridge us from now to then.
