Hello my name is Lorna, im a massive animal lover and i will do anything to give my animals a loving home and the care they need. My dogs have life of luxury and couldnt be more loved. I spend my last penny on them before myself, what any animal lover does.
This is killing me having to do it all over again but 10x worse.
In november 2021 lexi was diagnosed with IVDD this is common in daxies. She lost full control of her legs and was in agony, i was having to carry her in the garden to use the toilet with a sling no life for a dog! So she was rushed to north west vets from my vets to undergo emergency surgery she had stage 3, caught at the right time, her lower back disc was applying that much pressure she was in agony. The surgeon operated that day and she stayed with them for 5 days one of the most heartbreaking times, trying to find the money to pay for it i had to go ahead still, using my savings and looking for help of family i got there. She came out stronger than ever and like a new born i had to teach her to walk again with hydro therapy and crate rest for 6 weeks with doing 4 times a day physio, it was very challenging and i struggled alot. 3 months went by and i could finally take her on her first walk round the corner, i was overwhelmed as she made her first wobbly steps. Fast forward almost a year and im back in the same situation but 10 x worse, shes got it in her neck and another part of her lower back again and the only chance of survival is a big operation, im absolutely gutted and will do what it takes to keep my dog alive, its the best birthday present i recieved for my 21st and i love her with all my heart! But this time i just dont have the funds to go there and ive never created a page before but ive encouraged my self to speak out and ask for help..
IVDD is common in daxies, most of you know them as sausage dogs.. it costs around 2k for an mri and the surgery can total up to between 5k-9k depending on how bad it is and in lexis case shes got it in 2 places. The cost last year for myself cost me 5k and then had to pay for hydrotherapy twice a week at £40 for 5 months.
1st november 2022 lexi attended north west refferal clinic in wigan where she was diagnosed with stage 3 IVDD, in the vets words “her back is knackered” she was taken for a CT scan to see what the outcome would be, their is 2 options:
1) surgery within the next month
2) put her out of pain and send her to the angels in the sky
I explained that this is the second time and i couldnt afford it so the vet has given me a month to find the funds to go ahead with surgery and is now on strong dose of medication.. not a life for any living animal.
So after all this i was going to collect her and on route i had a phone call from the vets to say we have no option we need to operate now.. i obviously had to say yes and now im scanning around for money off family and credit cards:(
out of surgery at 18:30 and all went well absolutely over the moon if i had a bucket i would of filled it with my tears! Onwards and upwards
i would love for your help even a £1 would help build the pot. I would be very greatful for any donations.
i will update this page as proof to show lexis progression to show all of you who donate, the life you have kept living.
thankyou for taking the time to read my story, ill be forever greatful.
