Pay medical bills, travel, food, and future care

Hi my name is Chelsea and I have known Amanda since I was little and she is the best mom out there. Unfortunately one of her twins, Adam, was struck by a car while just being a kiddo on a snow day when he got going too fast. Please donate to help the family with travel, medical, food, and time off of work not to mention future care. I know the McWherter’s would do the same for all of us! Here is the post from Amanda:

I want to thank everyone for the thoughts and prayers, help and offers to help, you are all amazing and we could not ask for a better support system for our family.

I do want to provide an update as we know it right now, but please understand it changes by the hour and sometimes by the minute. I contemplated whether or not to share this image of Adam, but we are not able to have many visitors right now and I want to be able to provide daily updates and progress reports to friends, family and all of you mighty prayer warriors who are helping immensely and also to be able to relay to him when he wakes up.

While sledding this afternoon at home, he got going too fast and shot out into the road. Unfortunately he was struck by a vehicle. He was not alone and received care very quickly but was instantly knocked unconscious. His pulse was faint and did fade away. Paramedics were able to get his heart restarted after about 20 minutes with him in the ambulance at the base of our driveway. He was then taken to Jones Regional. There they stabilized him as much as possible and prepared him for transfer to the University of Iowa where Adam was admitted to the Stead Family Children’s Hospital. After numerous CT scans, EKG, EEG, tests and more here is what we know:

He has a broken clavicle and small fracture in his pelvic bone, a strained ligament in his neck and a spinal fracture somewhere above his shoulders. We will get an MRI to determine more as soon as we can, but it may be a day or so. There is a little bleeding in his skull and a small amount of blood in his lungs. He has had a few small seizures and they are increasing medication to prevent others. He was hypothermic so they’ve been working to get his temp back up. He is on a ventilator, but has attempted to breathe for himself a couple of times. His eyes occasionally flutter open and closed, but not in response to anything in particular. He is not currently on pain medication and is not responding to pain, but we are prepared for when that moment does come. His heart is strong, for that we are very thankful.

The next 3-5 days is a waiting game and crucial to determine what his long term care will look like. We are hopeful, but realistic and know he has a long road to recovery ahead of him. He has an amazing staff of nurses and doctors, and everyone has been amazing today! I praise the Lord for the first responders, sheriff’s department, paramedics, friends, neighbors and medical teams everywhere that have helped him and our family today!

Please keep praying for our big-hearted beautiful boy. He needs that more than anything right now.
