Help Fund my Eviction Attorney
Donation protected
I have been working with the Los Angeles Tenants Union/Sidicato de Inquillinos community since 2013, and helped establish the Northeast Local Chapter in 2017. In 2015, I was sexually assaulted by my landlord after his wife died unexpectedly; when I declined his advances, I began experiencing verbal harassment and retaliation, including lack of maintenance and repairs. Starting in February 2019 I began filing complaints with the City Departments of Health and Building and Safety about uninhabitable conditions in my home. These conditions were a direct result of my landlord's refusal to maintain the property. In May, I was served with an Unlawful Detainer/Eviction after 12 years as a tenant.
I am fighting this eviction as I believe it to be retaliatory. I have hired my LATU/SILA colleagues at Eviction Defense Network to answer the UD and defend me against the eviction in court.
EDN works tirelessly to defend any tenant who receives an eviction, regardless of their ability to pay. They have asked me to pay a fee for their services, which I am struggling to finance due to my own financial limitations.
I am reaching out to my greater community for help. I see how hard my fellow organizers and the attorneys at EDN work, especially Elena and Sean; they deserve to be paid. Please help me raise the money to compensate them at minimum for their time, research, filings and numerous court appearances.
Please consider donating; if you cannot, please join the Los Angeles Tenants Union/Sindicato de Inquillinos to support tenants rights and housing justice in Los Angeles.
Solidarity and Gratitude!
