Let's Pay the Referees

Arlington County government contracts with independent companies to recruit and schedule rec league sports referees. Last year, the owner and sole employee of one contract company, which managed dozens of basketball referees, had a stroke and has been unable to pay many of those referees, despite having received payment on his contract from County government.

I ask that you contribute to help pay the referees who have done the work. Your contributions will pay for the verified hours that these referees worked. I would love to raise the funds as soon as possible. If you can give, at least a little, please do, as soon as you are able.  

In addition to having already paid the contractor for the referees' services, Arlington County government is legally prohibited from giving money to individuals with whom it does not have a contract. The contractor now faces significant financial problems and, until the contractor's affairs are resolved, our hard-working referees remain unpaid. I am asking my fellow community members to pitch in. I have contributed personally and set up a safe way for you to do so.

I ask that you join me, as I care about making sure the young people and adults who refereed our County league games last year are compensated for their work. 

I'm proud that our community pitches in to help where there is a need. I promise if there was another way to get this done, I would do it. Please help.
