Helping Sausage & Family

Hi, my name is Tommy and I appreciate you looking at our story
I woke up at 7am on Saturday morning (29.07.23) to see a post on the local page that just broke my heart. All we knew was that a gentleman had heard a noise and found a young female cat with her very young kittens, and they were in his front garden. We couldn’t stand by and do nothing so we grabbed our cat carrier and found the little babies in a front garden. The mum had fought off a fox who had attacked the female kitten, despite not being much more than a kitten herself (and pregnant with another litter). She is domesticated but only weighs 2.2kg so someone had obviously dumped her and her kittens on the street. Unbelievable.
We set them up in our conservatory away from our cats and you could feel Momma relax for the first time in probably ages. We took her and the injured kitten to the vets who informed us she is underweight and pregnant. The injured baby had a bad fracture and they initially advised her to be put to sleep, however after seeing her eat and go to the toilet on her own, we knew she has a fighting chance and we want to do everything we can for her.
After a lot of anxiety and worry from us, they have settled in well. Momma is lovely and just seems really happy and relieved to be safe. She is practically a kitten herself still (around 5/6 months) but has eaten lots of food and enjoyed playing with us and her kittens.
The 3 uninjured kittens (Eggs, Bacon & Beans) are having a lot of fun and are getting more and more confident. They are also eating for England and have been winding up Momma to keep her on her toes.
The little injured kitten (Sausage) has been a champion, taking her pain meds like a hero (even at 4am when we had to rudely awake her). We have been carefully presenting her to mum who has cleaned her and she has been going to the toilet herself in her crate. She is also eating as much as possible which is really encouraging.
Unfortunately, after attending the vets today, the kindest and most effective treatment plan will be amputation followed by a recovery period. The whole leg will be removed as the fracture is so high, but we have been assured that she will be able to live a normal, happy life after some adjustments.
As you can imagine, this has already cost a fortune but some of our fantastic friends and family have already kindly donated. I don’t expect anything but if people could spare a couple of pounds, it would be amazing.
Update:
Sausage’s operation was a success! Thank you for all your generosity, it means the world to us. We are keeping the fund open as we will also be looking to pay to get Momma neutered as she has already had such an awful start to life. We will be concentrating on Sausage’s recovery and then all further funds will be donated to Petsearch West Midlands, a fantastic family run business that do an unbelievable job rescuing all forms of animals from our local area.
