Paying Tribute to Captain Larry Horne

Donation protected
Our Capt. Larry Horne (Dad, Step Dad, LH, Pop Pop) unexpectedly passed away on December 13th, 2022 leaving behind his wife, Cary and their kids, Shannon and Lindsay. The family is shocked and saddened by this loss and, unfortunately, not financially prepared as this was unexpected. If you knew Capt. Larry, you’d know how much they touched the lives of everyone around them. It’s now our turn to give back and help Cary and his children as they deal with the loss of Larry. As the family deals with this loss, we are raising money to assist with funeral costs, memorial service costs, and medical bills.

Most of you knew that Pop Pop has been on the long road to recovery ever since April 2021, when he fell and broke his hip. Since that fall, he has since had several trips to the emergency room. Two weeks ago, he fell and broke his arm. As they were getting discharged to leave that day, Larry's heart went into AFib and the doctors admitted him for close monitoring. After a few days of that, they found that he had a blood clot in his heart. They operated and removed the clot successfully and placed a pace maker. With the clot out and pacemaker in, we were excited that Pop could get back on the road to recovery. We even got him into a post acute rehab on Johns Island! This time around, making progress was slow and more difficult with all of the recent procedures. One night, he tried to get up and adjust his AC but he fell, hurting his already messed up back. This resulted in another trip to the ER to get checked out. The doctors cleared him to go back to the nursing home. He had been in a tremendous amount of pain since that fall and they could not get his pain under control. Cary was with him until 10pm on 12/12/22. She said goodnight and kissed him goodbye while reassuring him that she would be back in the morning for breakfast and to visit before she had to go to work. On 12/13/22, the nursing home called to alert her that he was unresponsive and they were trying CPR & oxygen to revive him. Shortly after that call, she received another with the news that our Pop Pop was no longer with us here on Earth.

Larry has been unable to work for the last several years and my mom had been taking care of him full-time, making her unable to work. She recently was able to get a job while he was being taken care of in a medical facility. It's been extremely difficult for her to work without a mode of transportation while trying to take care of Larry as well. Any little bit counts and if you're unable - please send positive thoughts, vibes, and prayers to our family.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.
Much Love,
Lindsay and Shannon
