Paying tribute to Gabriel and support for Isaiah

My name is Evan Overton and I'm writing to help Devin Gilgor support his grand baby following the death of his son Gabe.

Gabe stepped up to the plate without hesitation as a single father to now 18-month-old Isaiah. Knowing he needed extra support, Gabe moved in with Devin to help care for Isaiah since he was a newborn. Devin took the lead on caring for Isaiah by day so Gabe could work and provide for his son. This is a tragic loss for Isaiah and Devin and that's where you can help!

Devin is committed to continuing to provide a loving nurturing environment for Isaiah. Devin is also navigating the family court system in NC to obtain legal guardianship and custody for Isaiah since his mother is estranged since birth and suffers from chronic mental illness.

In addition to being an incredible caregiver to dozens of families over the past 30 years, Devin is a local hero who has taken in and provided housing, care, and financial support to countless people in crisis including vulnerable children, teens, queer, and trans folks. He regularly organizes mutual aid and community care drives for people in need around our community- this is a chance to pay him back for all he has given.

Your donation will go toward alleviating the financial burden Devin has incurred from funeral costs as well as upcoming legal fees. Anything extra will go toward basic needs for Isaiah and establishing a college fund if there is a surplus.

I hope that this fundraiser serves as a testament to Gabe's perseverance as a single father and helps secure a stable environment and bright future for Isaiah. Devin cared for both of my children since birth and continues to be an inspiration for the compassionate care provided in his small daycare in Chapel Hill.
