Money is no replacement for a life lost nor is it of any real comfort in a time of tragedy. The one thing that money does in situations like this is it gives the victims and their families the reassurance of knowing that the unexpected expenses that are often incurred as a result of a violent crime will be met or erased completely. In short, there has already been great loss in so many ways as a result of this senseless violence, let’s not let the financial burden of taking care of the victims or their families add to the pain they are already enduring.
On Wednesday May 6th, 2020 Evan (Helle Jae) O’Regan, Gabriella Harrell (Gabster) and Brittany Barker (Brit) were the victims of a completely random and senseless act of violence at the Diesel Barbershop Bandera Oaks location in San Antonio, TX. Brit managed to escape without any physical injuries but the trauma from this incident will live within her forever. Gabster suffered multiple stab wounds with one being so forceful that it broke the C4 vertebrae in her neck. Tragically, Helle Jae lost her life in this violent series of events. Words alone fail to do any real justice to the suffering the O’Regan, Harrell and Barker families are feeling right now. We are all in total disbelief and still hoping that we will just wake up and realize it was all just a really bad dream.
There are not enough kind words that I can say about Helle Jae, Gabster and Brit. You would be hard pressed to find three more kind, loving, wonderful human beings. Funny. Talented. Silly. Smart Ass (in a funny way). Loving. Passionate. Warm. Loyal. Kindhearted. And generous in every sense of the word. Each of them would give you their last taco (or celery stick) if they thought you needed it more than them. Or lend you their ear if you needed to talk. Or give you a ride if your car was having trouble. Or help you with a project that you found to be difficult but that was easy for them. That love and that generosity is something that I know we will try to carry forward through the rough days ahead.
I humbly, kindly, and respectfully ask that you please donate to our GoFundMe campaign for the benefit of Helle Jae, Gabster and Brit. All of the proceeds will go to the victims or the victims’ families to help cover final expenses, medical bills, rehabilitation, counseling, therapy and any other unforeseen expenses that may arise out of this nightmare. To give you some idea of the level of expenses that these families can expect to see, final expenses for Helle Jae will easily reach into 5 figures and the medical bills for Gabster alone will be closer to 6 figures.
As you can see, we need to raise an enormous amount of money to zero out these bills and the love and appreciation from the victims and their families for your help will be immeasurable. We are fully aware that the last 8 weeks have been difficult and financially stressful for everyone all across the country and that money is tight. That being said, please, please, please, take a minute and pause, dig deep, and help the victims and their families in any way that you can. Thank you all for the love and support we have received thus far. It has been of great comfort to us all.
