Paying tribute to Thomas Doty
On Thursday June 11th, 2020, my father Thomas Doty passed away in his sleep at age 67. He was a much loved and treasured native storyteller, writer and teacher.
Thomas Doty was a lifelong member of the Ashland community, with many long-time, close friends and colleagues. Everyone he spoke with remembers his resonate voice, his ability to tell to good story or have an in depth, rousing conversation about the arts, native culture or anything really. He lived his art.
I wish I had his help right now to write this.
Here is an audio of him reading one of his writings, Great Animal that is the World .
Growing up with him was a constant back-road trip to rock writings, cave adventures, redwoods, always on to make the next adventure. We traveled around and told stories together. I miss him dearly.
Here is his website , with his wealth of writings, stories and photos.
I know how loved he was by so many... I want to create a celebration of life for us to share our stories about his him and how he touched our lives. Please help us raise the money for his celebration of life, funeral costs and related expenses.
He has gone to dream-time, may his journey be full of stories, dancing in the stars.
