Every Little Helps!
"Pays de Fayence Solidaire" is a non-profit charitable organisation that was created in 2016 during the 'Festival Bagiliba' in Fayence. The aim is to help those in difficulty, and in particular the refugees at Ventimiglia on the franco-italian border.
One Saturday per month we prepare a hot or cold meal to be handed out to the refugees at Ventimiglia. In addition we ask for donations of food, clothes, blankets, sleeping bags and hygiene and first aid equipment, which we distribute amongst the refugees.
The Association organises concerts, exhibitions, car boot sales and theatrical performances to raise money and awareness of the situation on the border. In 2018, the 'Latitude 33' exhibition was hosted in Seillans, and in 2019 students from Lycée FÉNELON in Grasse performed 'Home' at the theatre in Fayence.
Through a combination of donations and the generosity of our members we have been able to help a school canteen that provides for young refugee children (École sans Frontières 06), Kesha Niya (an association that provides food on a daily basis for refugees), as well as some refugees needing help in their bid to get their papers in order. When we can, we assist Delia, 'una mamma italiana' who runs the bar, "The Hobbit" near Ventimiglia train station. She is constantly on hand to support the refugees, be it giving them somewhere warm to be for a short while, a place to charge their phones, or just someone to talk to.
Over the years we have been involved in the refugee centre at Chateaudouble (closed down at the beginning of 2020) and the Red Cross camp at Ventimiglia (shut down by the authorities this summer).
I was part of the group from Pays de Fayence Solidaire distributing food and clothing at Ventimiglia on Saturday 26th September and I was struck by how cold it was in the evening, in September. It seems as if winter has come early this year. Many of the refugees were asking for blankets and sleeping bags as they no longer have the Red Cross Camp to go to and have to sleep in the open. We only had a few blankets and sleeping bags to hand out and I felt so awful having to tell them that we had none left - it is with this in mind that I would ask you to please donate towards a special appeal that we are making for sleeping bags and camping mats in order that we can offer the refugees a small amount of comfort at night.

Cette association crée en 2016 à l'occasion du Festival Bagiliba, apolitique et non confessionnelle, porte assistance à toute personne en difficulté. Ses membres apportent leur soutien aux réfugiés à la frontière italienne.
Nos actions?
Un samedi par mois l'association prépare un repas froid (été) ou chaud, et nous organisons une collecte de nourriture, de vêtements, de materiel de couchage et de medicaments de premiére nécessité.
"Pays de Fayence Solidaire" participe et organise des concerts, des expositions, des vides greniers ou spectacles......L'exposition Latitude 33' à Seillans en 2018 (site Latitude 33 Seillans), et en 2019 la pièce 'Home" créée et mise et scène par des étudiants du Lycée FENELON de Grasse et jouée à Fayence, en sont deux exemples.
Avec l'aide des bénéfices de ses actions et de généreux dons tout au long de l'année, nous assumons d'autres aides plus personnelles, comme une aide en 2019 à la cantine scolaire pour les enfants des réfugiés, dans le cadre du réseau École sans Frontières 06, ou le parrainage de certaines associations comme Kesha Niya ou même certains réfugiés, afin de les aider dans leur démarche d'integration. Parmi les bénéficiaires, il y a aussi Delia, une 'mamma italien', qui fait un travail formidable pour accueillir et réconforter des familles de migrants dans son bar "le Hobbit" près de la gare de Vintimille. Nous sommes également en lien étroit avec la Caritas (Organisation Caritative Italienne) sur place.
Les réfugiés qui étaient logés au village de Chateaudouble jusqu'au debut de cette année, et le "Camp de la Croix Rouge" à Vintimille, fermé depuis cet été 2020, ont eux aussi été aidés de multiples façons, durant toutes ces années, par l'association.
Ayant participé à la dernière maraude de ce 26 septembre, j'ai été particulièrement touchée par le froid mordant qu'il y faisait deja en ce mois de septembre. Le seul abri qu'offrait la Croix Rouge étant fermé par les autorités, ma demande de fonds concerne spécifiquement l'achat de sacs de couchages et de petits tapis de sol. Pour pouvoir leur offrir les prochains mois, une protection minimum contre le froid!!
