Help The Tribe Pay for Legal Fees

Donation protected
The Tribe is a small Utah-based event company (est. 2016) that has experienced, along with many other small businesses, tremendous hardship and financial loss due to COVID-19.

In 2020, The Tribe was forced to cancel 17 consecutive events with no ability to recuperate time, sunk costs, and other resources.

Due to community and political pressure placed on a partnered venue, The Tribe was forced to cancel its 17th event known as "The Protest on Halloween", which would have followed ALL COVID-19 guidelines.

On Halloween night, individuals, acting independent of The Tribe, decided to gather on public lands. No profits were made and the event was completely free. The anticipated attendance at the informal gathering was exceeded by thousands. Erik Little, upon seeing the growing nature of the event, freely and voluntarily ended the event at approximately 11:30 pm. Law enforcement officers never put a stop to the event despite being made aware of it at approximately 3:00 pm that same day.

COVID-19 regulations forced the cancelation of nearly all other Halloween activities for college students, thus driving up the demand for some kind of activity on Halloween night.

The Utah County Attorney’s Office has sought to levy charges of Class B Misdemeanors to 9 individuals in association with the event. The Utah County Department of Public Health has issued fines totaling $60,000 to 4 individuals. Some of these charges and fines were given to individuals who played no role as hosts of the event (ie. Samuel Nii, Sadie Salisbury, Branden Estrada, James McReynolds, and Tali Foliaki).

The Tribe believes that the negative effects of social isolation (ie. depression, suicide, anxiety, etc.) are just as significant and harmful to our community as the negative effects caused by COVID-19.

The Tribe is in humble need of assistance to pay for legal fees and to fight to protect the right to gather, not only for event hosts but for all businesses who are struggling under the weight of constantly-changing rules and regulations associated with the COVID-19 pandemic.
