Help Shayla Beat Stage 4 Metastatic Breast Cancer

Diagnosis and Treatment

On September 30th, 2019, Our family received some news that would alter our lives as we knew them.

Our daughter Shayla, at the young age of only 24 was diagnosed with a very aggressive form of cancer, Grade 3 Invasive Ductal Carcinoma (Breast Cancer). She fought through a year in treatment to fight off this vicious disease, and it is with great sadness that we have to announce it has returned with a vengeance spreading into her lungs and lymph nodes. Shayla now has Stage 4 Metastatic Breast Cancer - The only form of breast cancer that cannot be cured and the only form of breast cancer that kills. In Canada with standard treatment, doctors have told Shayla she will have approximately one year to live.

Shayla has dedicated her life to becoming a nurse and working in women's heath
at a hospital near where she lives in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.

Her goal has always been to help make other people's lives better.
Anyone who knows her knows that she is selfless, independent and a hard working woman who has overcome many hardships throughout her life.

She has let nothing get in the way of her dreams and goals, despite those obstacles.

During Shayla's journey through cancer, she has never once thought about herself, but rather worried how it affected those around her.

Shayla immediately started an Instagram account @pinkcancergirl, dedicated to helping advocate for and educate women around the world about breast cancer, and genetic mutations.

She has been so real and raw about her journey over the past year, and is an inspiration to many young women. This is just a glimpse of the amazing person Shayla is and why we are all so blessed to have her in our lives.

Shayla, who herself works in healthcare, and has dedicated her life to helping save others, is now the one in need of help.

After her initial diagnosis, Shayla immediately underwent 5 months of chemotherapy. Upon completion of her chemo treatment, we were shocked to learn that it had no effect on her tumor, which had actually grown significantly.

She was immediately booked for emergency surgery to have the aggressive tumor removed, followed by daily radiation treatments which ran over the course of six weeks.

Things appeared to be going well. Shayla began resuming life after cancer, even
going back to work and her passion with her nursing position.

Last week, she underwent her 6 month post radiation CT scan.  We've just received the devastating results told that she is now Stage 4 (Metastatic Breast Cancer) as it had spread into her lungs.

We now have to take immediate measures to get Shayla the treatment that she needs.

As treatment options here are very limited here for her type of cancer, we are now seeking medical consultation and treatment in the United States.

We now have to get much more advanced testing done than is offered here,
to prepare for more targeted treatments and clinical trials that are
not offered here in Canada, but are available in the US.

The reason for our campaign is to help cover the exorbitant associated costs
that Shayla is facing.

Shayla will be needing to undergo chemotherapy,  PARP Inhibitor treatment, immunotherapy, molecular testing and various clinical trials. We already know treatment is going to cost tens of thousands of dollars to start. Financially, we cannot do this alone.

Additional costs would include:

- Medical Treatment
- Private Insurance
- Travel
- Accommodations
- Living expenses

We as her parents, family and friends want Shayla to focus on her health and well being, and not have to worry about the cost of fighting for her life.

Time is of the essence, as we could be called to come into the States at any time.

We thank you in advance for your compassion, for opening your hearts,
and for your generosity in helping us with us with our fight.

God Bless, we thank you for your help and compassion.
