The Burnley Bouldering Wall Fundraiser

Since 1992 the Burnley underpass has brought the climbing community together as a place of inspiration. From humble beginnings in the early 90's as merely different pieces of rocks cemented onto an overhanging bend. To a massive metropolitan public park upgrade featuring three distinct, differently angled walls in the early 2000's. It's safe to say that the space is of significant value to Melbourne public park spaces, let alone the core climbing community consisting openly of people of all ages and experience levels.

The walls have introduced the now popularly crazed rock climbing hobby phenomenon to tons of people. Yet also serves as a place of rock climbers respite, tucked in the inner city distant from the cliff lines of Mt Arapiles. All of the efforts that go into fixing over 1000 different climbing holds (grips) that are featured at Burnley, as well as essential maintenance. Is all voluntary efforts conducted by a group of passionate volunteers that dedicate themselves to giving back to the climbing community.

Burnley is proudly supported, funded by the generous Parks Victoria organisation, as well as the Victorian Climbing Club (VCC). The small amount of budget that goes into fixing, slightly upgrading and maintaining Burnley has held the wall steady for years.

However; With the current boom of rock climbing resulting in many more users of the space. And a dire need for some essential matting upgrades in result. There's now an essential need to campaign raising funds to upgrade the walls & mats. Refreshing the space into an even more brilliant public facility.

The VCC & Parks Victoria will collectively use these funds to provide essential upgrades to maintaining the 20+ year old walls. And make essential upgrades to the rubber matting, making the walls even safer for members of the public and lifelong climbers alike. There's been over 5 years since the previous fundraising campaign to support Burnleys maintenance needs. Any funds donated will go straight back into supporting the space and emboldening one of the best public climbing facilities in the world.
