PCHS Yacht Club to Seventy48
The Platte Canyon High School Yacht Club is at it again! Last year we raised $9500 and finished the 70 mile race in 17 hours and 41 minutes. Out of 106 teams we finished 23rd. We couldn't have been more proud of our students and their effort to make it happen. See more of the story here: https://www.offcenterharbor.com/videos/we-believe-platte-canyon-high-school-seventy48/
After our trip to the Seventy48 in 2019 we are have committed to doing it again. We are taking our 40-foot trimaran canoe "Credimus" and are converting it to a 52-foot catamaran canoe rechristened "Street Credimus." This new build will be powered by pedals and will utilize 5 paddle wheels to make it go.
Below is the prototype of our new vessel. It will hold 20 people and most of the same students will compete again this year. Last year our goal was to finish and this year we want to finish in the top ten!
One goal of the project last year was to bring wood shop back to our school. This has happened as a result of the Yacht Club. We have a space, some tools, and administrative support to work on projects. So thank you!
Our plan this year is to just do the race itself and not do a trip during spring break to California. We know the boat works and we are focusing our efforts on getting to and from the Pacific Northwest. We are looking for funds to help with the transportation of the vessel. We have the trailers, and the trucks to tow them. We are needing help with fuel and building materials.
We are so thankful for the help last year and we look forward to sharing more stories and changing more lives at this years' race!
Thank you for contributing to this once-in-a-lifetime project! Donors can stay up-to-date on the progress of the boats on our website at www.plattecanyonschools.org or by following us on Instagram @pchsyachtclub.
