Temporary Housing Fund
Dear housing supporters,
Our grass root program, Self Help Hunger has dedicated the better part of last year to offering emergency housing to recently displaced North Oakland and South Berkeley residents while also advocating for the permanent housing with the local agencies.
For anyone who's ever had to deal with the process of finding emergency housing, you might know that it takes days and days of calling agencies, pleading with social workers, and hours of dedicated work in order to resolve all the bureaucratic paperwork required for a person to enter a place with a roof over their head.
While this process is happening, there is NO option for temporary housing, except shelters who are many times not fit for human living.
For a year and a half, SHHP has invested $30,000 in offering immediate support to seniors, people with disabilities, families with children and people at risk by providing motel rooms and advocating for permanent housing. We are happy to report a rate of success of over 90% for all our clients.
Please help us grow our dedicated fund for Temporary Emergency Housing so that we can work towards having housing options on hold for the remainder of the year for all the people that need our support.
