Get free meals to those who need them > Keep a local restaurant group in operation > Help local farmers stay afloat.
In a matter of days, covid-19 has upended almost every aspect of our lives. But for Portland restaurants—despite losing practically all of their business overnight—two promises remain the same: protect people from harm and keep people fed.
Right now, thousands of Portlanders are out of work or facing severely reduced wages due to government lockdown orders. Meanwhile, several great Portland restaurants have closed their doors, some of which won’t be able to reopen even after the virus wanes. In addition, PNW suppliers—relying on restaurant industry demand—have also seen business evaporate.
I’ve created #PDXFoodChain with the help of #SmallBusinessRelief to address these three problems.
Here’s how it works:
1. We purchase gifts cards from a local restaurant group (YNRG).
2. These gift cards go to people in need who can use them to get freshly-made meals from YNRG.
3. YNRG restaurants purchase ingredients from PNW farmers and suppliers (including Blue Truck Farms and Groundworks Organics). It’s a win-win-win.
If you’d like to help us reach our next goal, donate to this GoFundMe or share this page. If you or someone you know lost work because of the coronavirus and could use a little help, find me on facebook and send me a dm.
Follow along: I’ll post all transactions on this thread so people know how many dollars have been spent. I’ll post updates and pictures there as each round of gift cards gets delivered.
Thank you! Let’s band together!
*Update 4/1: And just like that, we (almost!) reached our goal! Thank you, thank you, thank you. Tomorrow morning (4/2) I'm going by to purchase 80x $25 giftcards and 10x $50, and will post an update when that happens. If you're reading this and would still like to donate above the goal, please do! That money will go directly to more gift cards & feeding more people, and I will simply post updates as I buy each round. I'm leaving the fundraiser open for now, as I've applied for $500 more (aka 20x $25 gift cards into the hands of people that need them) from GoFundMe's small business relief program and I'm awaiting a resolution.
Sending so much love.
