Peace For All of Us: Safe and Affordable Housing
Donation protected
In 2020, Kevin and I purchased two condo units to provide affordable housing options for two important groups of people:
- Female survivors of domestic violence and her children
- Youth who are aging out of foster care
We were overwhelmed with support from the community, when we asked for good quality furniture pieces. We were able to furnish both units, largely from community donations.
In January of 2021, both units will be fully occupied. We recognized that in order to maintain these homes while saving money for more units, we need help. The funds will be used for:
- Utility bills for both units (e.g.: Hydro, high-speed internet)
- Maintenance (e.g.: repairs, regular heating/cooling maintenance, furniture replenishment)
This will allow us to focus on investing our savings in order to continue to re-invest in real estate and provide affordable housing options. Kevin will be taking care of the financials, and will be very transparent with the community regarding the spending of funds.
Kevin and I were so grateful for everyone's outpouring of support, and the generosity with the furniture donations. We had many inquiries from individuals in the community who were willing to donate money to the cause. We were uncomfortable taking money at the time because we were not prepared with a separate account or a budget. We currently have these in place now, and with both homes fully occupied, we will have more time to dedicate to developing more affordable housing options.
