Peace & Justice for Alex's Family

Donation protected
Our family needs your help with funeral expenses, legal services, and a public campaign to bring justice for Alex.

Alex Gonzales was Killed By Police.

Alex was driving with his girlfriend and their 2-month-old baby boy when he was chased and shot at (while driving) by a plainclothes police officer. Alex's car pulled over. His girlfriend had been shot, and his face was bleeding. According to witnesses, the police officer left the scene and returned minutes later.

Bystander video shows the plainclothes officer acknowledging that a woman, who is crying “My baby, my baby,” is lying on the ground, but did not go to help her. When Alex, unarmed, went to check on his girlfriend and the baby, he was shot 10 times by police who had arrived on the scene.

Bystander video  shows interactions before and after the uniformed police arrive. The video raises lots of concerns about misleading statements and multiple inaccuracies, clear escalation and unnecessary use of lethal force, as well as an extreme lack of compassion for a family in danger.

Alex was then killed only 72 seconds after police arrived on scene.

This is the second police killing in the East Riverside area in less than a year. Last April, police killed Mike Ramos outside a nearby apartment complex.

So far, police narratives have not told the whole story. and community organizers are moving forward to support the family in seeking justice for Alex.

Our family is not the same and is beyond heartbroken.

Our family believe the shots were "overkill." Alex's father Alexander Gonzales Sr. told FOX 7 Austin "...my son died on the ground struggling for air, while his baby’s crying and his girls bleeding on the ground…"

Gonzales' parents and sister believe he was reaching for his infant in the back seat. "You know why he reached in the back? He’s reaching for his baby, to check his son. His girl got shot, his baby’s in the back screaming and crying. What would y’all do if you had people unloading rounds on you?" asked Alexander Gonzales Sr.

"All I keep thinking about are the dreams Alex will not be able to fulfill, the memories he wont create with his son or our family. This is a defining tragedy for everyone there is now a before and after in our lives; before Alex was killed and after he was killed."

-  Carina Pinales, Alex's cousin.

Please help us cover the costs it will require to bring justice for Alex and some peace for our family.
