Peace Yoga Gallery Needs Our Help

Donation protected
UPDATE: Namaste, Thank for helping us reach our goal so quickly, in just 8 hours. Any additional funds that extend beyond the cost of replacement for the studio window will be put toward food and supplies to continue to feed those in need. Extra funding will go towards much needed upgrades and to outfit the rooftop in the same building which has become the yoga studio space during LA County Covid -19 restrictions.

Owner of Peace Yoga Gallery, Cheri Rae, woke up on a Friday morning and found the front of her Downtown Los Angeles yoga studio vandalized.

On Feb 26th, at about 3 am, an individual threw bricks through the glass window of Peace Yoga’s retail front.  This incident is being investigated and can possibly be part of a larger window breaking incident throughout the Fashion District and also the Buddhist Temple in Little Tokyo.

As a resident of DTLA for thirty-four years, Cheri has been a pioneer in shaping her community.  Often, she uses yoga to fulfill her commitment to Seva (a Hindu practice of selfless service) by partnering with non-profits that support at-risk youth such as Homeboy and Homegirl Industries and LA Job corps.

Peace Yoga Gallery is a shining example of how community collaborates and thrives by working together.  The studio operates on a donation based policy where all are welcomed regardless of personal finances.  Cheri’s philosophy is if a person is willing to put in the work to heal themselves then money should not be a barrier in their path to wellness.  Catering services, courses on nutrition, and yoga services are often gifted to the community.

Unshaken by the vandalism of the incident Cheri’s next move was to teach her scheduled rooftop class in front of the cleaned up broken window as a symbol of community resilience.

We all know that small business owners have had it tougher than most in the past year.  While the studio has worked hard to continuously offer classes on the open rooftop, this unexpected expense was a setback recovering from the impacts of COVID.

Peace Yoga Gallery is one the few yoga studios in Los Angeles that have been able to weather the storm and remain open for business.  We are asking for the community to contribute to this fund and give back to Cheri so she can continue serving others in the way that she does it best!

Perspective is key.  “My heart is breaking yet again.”- Cheri

Upon reflection she went on to find the positive in a seemingly negative situation through the wisdom of Rumi:

“You have to keep breaking your heart until it opens.”

Thank you for your contribution.  Any amount helps!  If you are unable to donate, will you please take a few moments to share this with your network?
