Trip to Japan for Peace March
I have been invited to participate in the 2017 International Youth Relay Peace March Against A&H Bombs in Japan this year, held by the organization Gensuikyo. I would be joining the first 3 legs of the march in Tokyo, Kanagawa, and Shizuoka prefectures. While they are covering all expenses in Japan, I need to raise funds for travel there by the end of April!
I’m very excited for this opportunity to march for nuclear peace in solidarity with a country that has been so affected by it. The presence of an American marcher is also very important to this organization, since the U.S. is currently the strongest nuclear power. My presence would be a small symbol of American support in their effort for nuclear disarmament. I hope to learn even more about this issue and see it from the perspectives of other internationals as well as Japanese people. This will also give me a window into the culture that will help me in my future Japanese studies.
If you would like to see what this march is like, here are some Peace March Journals from past marchers.
I would be so grateful for anyone's help, even just a dollar. This is such an amazing opportunity; all I need is a passport and the plane ticket!
