Pear Tree Community School

Pear Tree Community School is a Montessori-inspired, social justice TK-grade 5 independent School in Oakland, California. About 95% of Pear Tree's students are students of color, and approximately 80% of the student body receives financial aid. Pear Tree Preschool was founded 12 years ago, and its elementary school in 2013, to provide academically rigorous, socio-emotionally informed, civically engaged, and arts-infused education to young children. Pear Tree was recently written up in the London Review of Education in their special issue on decolonizing curriculum in schools around the globe (see here ).
Pear Tree has struggled to find an optimal space to house its school and our current space poses some challenges as we grow. Our parking situation where we share a lot with a preschool and have to stagger drop offs and pick ups, our limited outdoor play areas, and complaints from inconsiderate neighbors prompted us to keep our eyes open for other sites. A rare opportunity to move to a new space, also in Oakland, where we would have ample outdoor space, parking, and large classrooms, has come up... AND WE GOT IT! WE ARE MOVING!!!!
Our budget for this year didn't take into account this possibility, and we are raising funds to move our books, classroom furniture, materials and to purchase new playground structures for the TK-grade 1 and grades 2-5 yards. Funds raised will all be used towards the move and to secure a future for our small but MIGHTY school that provides a beautiful learning community for its students.
Thank you for your donation of any amount to help facilitate this move!
