Pedal for PPE: A long distance solo ride to ensure all healthcare workers are protected!
I am employed by a homecare agency and have the privilege to work alongside some amazing nurses.
While the public spotlight has been mainly on the healthcare professionals battling COVID+ in a hospital setting, and on the protective equipment they use, I want to highlight a group of healthcare workers who are also caring for COVID+ patients. Homecare nurses and physical therapists are continuing to visit patients at home and are required to wear the same level of PPE (personal protective equipment) as their hospital counterparts. During each visit we are required to use a separate gown, gloves, mask, head covering and drapes for each patient we see. As you can imagine, this can get expensive and supplies are limited.
Examples of PPE costs:
10 Isolation gowns ~$40
20 N95 masks ~$40
1 box of 200 Nitrile gloves ~$15
1 face shield ~$10 each
My goal with PPE is to raise awareness and funds to purchase and donate more PPE. I will be doing a 100 mile bike ride May 2nd (May 3rd rain date) to raise funds for PPE. If you could support me with a donation towards the purchase of PPE, I would be grateful. Any amount will help make a difference. You can tie your donation to the number of miles I ride (see example below), or give a flat donation. All donations are appreciated!
