Pedicab shop fire
Donation protected
At about 3am Tuesday morning, two of Austin’s staple pedicab shops were badly affected by a fire.
A shop affectionately known as ‘Dirtnail’ had been taken over by Metrocycle and in the back half, Pedicab Adventures.
Due to what the fire department is speculating as an electrical short, the front building caught fire burning with it 50 of Metrocycles cabs and all tools and bike parts etc. Nathan had collected throughout the years of being a shop owner and all other contents of his riders.
It then spread to the back portion of the shop where the indie riders stored their cabs and onto Pedicab Adventures. Taking with it another 25 cabs.
All in all, about 75 cabs were lost and with South by South West just weeks away, it couldn’t be much worse timing.
Nathan, a Dad of two just lost his whole business and he’s more worried about how his riders are going to get on cabs for the event.
As we all know, Southby is the bread and butter of Austin and pedicabbers rely on it after the drought that is winter.
In my humble opinion, pedicabbers are the unsung heroes of the downtown night scene. These scallywags bust their butts to make sure your drunk self gets home safe, doesn’t end up with that one creepy guy, will give you directions, suggestions or even a tour.
These night owls are real entrepreneurs, paving their own way and my heart goes out to the independent rider/owners, who also just lost their whole business.
Please join us in our effort to rebuild these two shops. To rebuild these small, independent businesses.
Pedicabs are expensive, y’all!
Each and every dollar is appreciated more than words can say!
