Pedrie Wannenburg Family Fundraiser
Donation protected
The Rice Rugby Club hopes to raise funds to help support the Wannenburg family as they recover from a tragic accident on 4/22/2022. Coach Pedrie Wannenberg's car was struck by a vehicle fleeing a high-speed chase, killing Pedrie and leaving his 8-year-old son in critical condition following the accident.
The 2021-2022 season was the first time we stepped onto the pitch following the shutdowns of COVID-19, and therefore our club's expectations were very loosely defined. Nevertheless, we were ecstatic to welcome Pedrie into the club as a new coach and his leadership, humor, and grit helped us accomplish our first conference sweep in years.
Pedrie was a world-class rugby player, representing South Africa's national team and multiple top-tier teams throughout Europe, South Africa, and America. He was a warrior on the pitch, famously playing 99 consecutive matches for the Vodacom Bulls between 2002 and 2010. His impact as a player, coach, and supporter of the sport is felt across multiple countries and continents, and he will be greatly missed by all alike. We'll miss his halftime speeches, grueling fitness drills, and commanding spirit and will be forever thankful for his contributions to our program. Please consider helping support Pedrie's family as they recover from the devastating events of this week with a donation of any kind.
