Peggy a Chocolate Lab rescue dog who has cancer.

My name is Ann and I am hoping to raise funds for my friend Nicky who owns Peggy. She has pet insurance but the insurance company won't fund a life saving operation to remove a cancerous ear.

Five years ago, Peggy a short legged, friendly, barrel shaped, bouncy chocolate Labrador found herself in an animal rescue after being discarded by a breeder. She had been used as a breeding machine and had one cauliflower ear and a haematoma in the other ear. She suffered with horrific ear infections. She had bald patches on her body and feet, and an untreated broken toe which had healed itself badly. The animal rescue gave her veterinary care but Nicky adopted her knowing she had an ear infection. When Peggy arrived she was a wriggling, wagging, smiling, little legged labrador with buttons sewn in her ear around the haematoma, a blue ring around her neck to stop her scratching and boobs extended to the floor. It amazed Nicky that such a badly treated girl was so friendly and happy. Now she is a beautiful bright brown eyed girl and everyone who meets her falls in love with her infectious happy spirit.

For the last two years Peggy had been a regular visitor to the vets with continuous ear infections. Her ear canal has narrowed due to previous untreated infections. After her latest ear infection cleared up the vet noticed a growth in Peggy's ear and said there was a possibility that it could be cancer and recommended removal of the lump. The removal of the lump and a biopsy has cost just under £900 and the insurance company will not cover this bill because Nicky adopted Peggy knowing she had a previous history of ear infections.

The Lab report has come back and recommends removal of the ear with an estimated cost of £3000 to £5000! The Lab report states that the prognosis for a longer life for Peggy is good if the ear is removed. Nicky is devastated as she has not got the funds to pay for this treatment hence this request from both of us for help towards the escalating cost of vet bills. After Peggy's bad start in life where people have abused her, this beautiful cuddly soul now needs help once again to enable her to have the operation she needs to live a good few more years.
