Peggy Sue’s cancer kicking journey
Donation protected
My name is Abby, and I have an 8 year old mixed breed dog named Peggy. I’m in vet school at St. George’s University on an island in the Caribbean. Shortly after we got here we discovered Peggy had a mast cell (cancerous) tumor. While we were trying to figure out what to do with that, we also found an even bigger problem: an adrenal tumor. Turns out she’s most likely had this tumor since I rescued her 3 years ago, but no one ever knew since she’s such a happy go lucky gal! Throughout her journey, Peggy has been helping out with my fellow vet students to be one of the best patients ever so she can help them become the best doctors they can be! After over a year of trying to figure out what to do (Peggy none the wiser since she was just happy to get all the attention) her doctors decided she needed to get surgery done ASAP. Being a vet student, I don’t have all of the funds at my disposal, but I figured I’d reach out a hand to anyone who’s learned from, loved, or just pet Peggy on her many adventures to or around campus.
Peggy has a doctor at MedVet Columbus (I’m our home state of Ohio) who’s ready to help her kick cancer’s butt, but we need to get her home first!
Peggy could use your help and any good vibes you can spare as she undergoes this surgery and recovery. Any funds raised will go directly to her surgery cost and the flight home. If we have any left over funds, they will be donated to a local animal shelter here on the island to help other pets in need!
Happy holidays to everyone and we hope you share Peggy’s story, because if you know Peggy, you KNOW she loves (and deserves) all the attention!
**UPDATE 1/6/22- Peggy and I have made it back to the states! We got so lucky that her surgeon was able to fit us into the schedule during the time that I’m back here before school starts back up again. That being said, I was able to only temporarily find the funds for her surgery, so any donations are still very much so appreciated! As happy as I’d be to be living on the streets or giving up a kidney just to save precious Peggy, I think she’d be a little mad at me if she wasn’t a spoiled old lady anymore. I will update this page after she’s out of surgery today!
With love and slobbery kisses,
Peggy (and Abby, plus her dog brother Joe too!)
