Pele’s emergency surgery

Donation protected
Hello,
This Sunday my little puppy Pele suddenly lost the use of her hind legs. Within a brief moment she went from being playful and exuberant to being almost paralyzed and in extreme pain. We rushed her to the emergency veterinarian who ran tests and told us that we needed to get her to a Neurologist as soon as possible. I took her home and after spending another half day with her and was certain that I would have to put her down. I couldn’t imagine the loss of her and how it would affect me and Forest, my eight year old son. She is our baby and has brought us so much love and joy.
By some miracle I got in to OSU veterinary Hospital and they saw her right away. They discovered that she has two ruptured discs in her spine and they recommended surgery right away. If they did the surgery immediately she would have a 90% recovery rate to be back to her almost normal self. I searched my heart and soul and realized that saving her life was also saving myself in a way. Adopting her was the brightest gift In the depths of two of the hardest years of our life. At this point the vet bill is over $8000. Pele is officially the most expensive thing in my life! I never thought that I would make this choice, but I knew in my heart and soul that it was the right one. We’re going to have to completely change our lives and home around in order to keep her safe.
The doc said that she has degenerative disc disease and that we will have to give her special treatment her whole life. That’s OK. She’s worth it. I know so many of you have watched my journey of adopting her and seeing the love that she gives us. There are also quite a few of you have gotten loving Covid tests from her exuberant kissing. I know that times are really tough for a lot of people financially. I really appreciate any support that we are given. It’s only been two days and I have felt so much love and support from my community that I am in tears. Thank you so much.
with love and gratitude,
Dixie Rose, Forest, and Lovey. (Molly Doesn’t give a hoot. Or at least she pretends not to)
